Saturday April 29, 2017 the Katy ISD Police ion in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration ( DEA) will be giving the general public the opportunity to get rid of unused or expired prescriptions from their homes. This Taking Back event is taking place at the Mark L. Hopkins Law Enforcement Center in Katy which is located at the address shown above. Take Back starts at 10 AM and lasts until 2 PM.

Last September, Americans across the Nation turned in more than 617,000 pounds of prescription drugs at sites operated by the DEA at approximately 5,500 sites across the US. Since inception this program has taken in more than  4.8 million pounds of pills. These are totally amazing results.

Disposal of unused drugs by flushing down the toilet or throwing into the garbage poses both a huge health risk and

Residents of the area can now safely rid their homes from potentially dangerous unused or expired prescription drugs. This year as during last year any sharp objects such as needles will not be accepted. The DEA states this is a very important public initiative as medicines which languish in home medicine cabinets are highly likely to be susceptible to abuse, misuse, theft and potential drug usage by others.

They cannot accept liquids, needles or any sharp objects but only pills and patches. This service is free of charge and completely anonymous.

Studies have found that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from friends and family especially from the home medicine cabinet.

These kinds of programs and events are very important.  Anything to keep people from flushing them, and having them get into the water supply.
