Copper Mountain Resort gets new upgrades

The Colorado resort recently announced long-awaited capital improvement plans.

When the weather starts warming up for spring and the snow starts melting, ski resorts turn their attention to future planning and construction. For both skiers and snowboarders, the most anticipated projects are new ski lifts, which translate to faster access to the slopes and more terrain to enjoy.

The Kokomo Express High Speed chairlift

Lift manufacturer Doppelmayr has been contracted to build the new Kokomo high-speed quad at Copper Mountain, announced Powdr Adventure Lifestyle Co. in a statement. The announcement of the new upgrades comes shortly after the U.S. Forest Service granted final approval earlier this month to expansions that include upgrades for both winter and summer activities.

The new express lift will extend 215 feet downhill of the current triple chair, a 1981-built Poma, and go up 362 vertical feet and will continue service a handful of beginner trails on the western edge of the ski area. The new Kokomo Express chairlift is located near Copper Mountain’s West Village and with a record four-minute ride time it is bound to offer riders an improved overall experience.

Additional capital improvements include the installation of an alpine coaster known as the Rocky Mountain Coaster at Copper Mountain, and an upgrade in lift pass technology to accommodate gated access.

The Rocky Mountain Coaster at Copper Mountain

At 5,800 feet and a vertical drop of 430 feet, the Rocky Mountain Coaster will be the longest alpine coaster in North America, and according to the resort, is poised to provide an exciting activity in both the summer and winter months. The Rocky Mountain Coaster is  expected to be ready and operational by September of this year.

New Gated Access Lift Pass Technology

The resort will also make the shift to gated access for the next winter season of 2017/2018. This radio-frequency ID technology, build by Mountain Pass Systems, will include the installation of terminals at all mountain access lifts including the Union Creek Quad, American Flyer, American Eagle and Super Bee lifts. The new system can detect whether a person using a pass has a substantially different physical profile, then it flags that person for further scrutiny from lift operators. According to Copper Mountain, “this upgrade will improve business and provide a quick and effortless way for guests to access the mountain.”

West Village

Conveniently located near the ski slopes, Copper Mountain’s West Village is within a 10-minute walk from the slopes, Center Village and Copper Creek Golf Club. Home to Copper Ski School, quaint restaurants, shops and resort services and known for its peace and quiet summer evenings, West Village is a visitor’s dream. Local accommodations include numerous beautiful single family homes, condo complexes and ski-in/ski-out properties in close proximity to choose from: the spectacular Lewis Ranch Ski Homes collection and Masters at Copper Creek, the elegant Elk Run at Copper Mountain Townhomes, and a variety of slope-side condos.
