So getting up at 4:00 AM in the morning without a cup of coffee is how we spend our travel mornings when we go to our place in Jupiter Florida. Having traveled a lot I can verify that every airline has their time in the bullring and today's democratized travel has its rewards but also its frustrations. Today was one of those days. it started with a 50 minute delay in Oklahoma City for lack of pilots for the plane because they got in so late the night before for a weather delay and are required to sleep so many hours. Now many were mad and they has missed connections the night before but for me, I would rather someone flying a big plan in traffic has their sleep. The good news is they got in 10 minutes earlier so Charlene and I could make a run for our next flight out of Atlanta for West Palm Beach.
We were greeted with disappointment because that plane not only had no pilots it also had no flight attendants and they were stuck in Dallas. I watched people go up to the counter and get angry with the desk lady and this makes me extremely mad. I have had clients mad at me and call the office and ream out the receptionist but when they talked to me they were polite. Cowards treat hired help that way and I think of it as abuse. Meanwhile we are conversing with 3 experienced flyer's and telling each other bad experiences now laughable and saying what are you going to do, you can control the weather or fate. Meanwhile we are helping each other out and my wife who is the best person to travel with on the planet rushes back to the gate after looking for the Sky Lounge saying Daytona Beach has space! One lady who had bee stranded for 4 days, that how bad Atlanta was, and the rest of us rushed to the Daytona Gate.
So here is the moral of the story and of course it would be flying with my wife is a good thing but I digress. Instead of yelling at employees about Delta's profit or taking it out on someone who has to take it, try humor and kindness. We talked to the front desk person and we told her she deserves a raise and we were grateful that people like her cared about us. So what was the result? We were put in first class, and then after a three hour drive we are here. All in all a tiring and long day and we didn't just ride on silver wings, we rode on kindness, and made friends because we cared about them too.
