Is Growth Always Good?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Living in the fourth largest metro area in the country, I keep hearing about housing demand exceeding supply and plans for the next 20 years. Newspapers always tout new companies moving into Texas from California and job growth as GOOD. So is growth always good? It sure seems yes and no, and the NO part comes from what you want out of life. I think it is a quality versus quantity of life. Traffic congestion, stress, slower pace of life, lots of things of what is important to YOU.

That adage that bigger is BETTER is not always true. So weigh carefully that growth is always good, often you can just get lost in the shuffle and take 90 minutes to drive from the office to home.

MAKE SURE IT IS WORTH IT ....

whatever worth it means to you......

Gary, Denver is growing like CRAZY, and you cannot drive anywhere in a reasonable time now.

I for one don't like big city kind of traffic so in that sense for me bigger isn't better. That graphic could make you dizzy.

Good evening Gary Woltal ,

Unfortunately with extreme growth like we are experiencing in Texas there is the down side of congestion, traffic and impatience. The best way to deal with it all is pragmatically and problem solve how to deal with the influx..it's not stopping any time so soon!

Many of my sellers in California are moving to Texas because it's so much cheaper. But you're right about the quality of life. How cool is it to sit in traffic for an hour just to get to work. That's one of the reasons we did not move to Orange County, like I wanted to. Too many people and not enough resources.

The South is growing, much of it from people fleeing high tax / progressive socialist states like New York and California.  The frightening thing is that those newcomers will bring with them the same politics that destroyed the states they are leaving behind.

I got so wrapped up on your graphic that I had to go back and re-read the post.  Living in a small town the rush hour is stalled when someone has to take a left

Hi Gary, unplanned growth is not good, and building new roads/ transporatation services, homes, and schools etc... always seem to lag far behind the population. Too bad "someone" doesn't have a crystal ball to see the end result!

I'm one of those folks who believe that growth and change always being good, is a myth.  After all growth and change are made up of pure raw energy, only as good as the powers who guide and form it into productive form.  Often those powers miss their mark!

Bigger is not always better, Gary! Our city has grown by leaps & bounds in the past 3 decades -to the point of now, experiencing the congestion of a major metropolis. Commute times have risen and the state can't keep up with the necessary infrastructure expansions.

I suppose though, it could be the other way around and we could have people exiting our fine states!  ;-)

Happy Easter, Gary!

Quality of life is very important. See the building going up everywhere without regard for environmental or social impact. Prefer growth to be on the inside of each of us as we learn and grow wiser which is much healthier
