Washing of the Feet, a Powerful Message.
One of the most impressive traditions of Holy Week is the commemoration of Jesus washing the feet of his apostles.
Churches all over the world hold a mass or ceremony in remembrance of this. In many churches, they choose representatives of the different people involved in church and the priest washes their feet.
In our church, we get our feet washed by the person in front of us in line, we then in turn wash the feet of the person behind us in line. This is quite a humbling experience.
Pope Francis himself will continue this tradition. On Holy Thursday, he will say the Mass of the Last Supper at Paliano Prison and was the feet of the inmates.
This is not the first time that our Pope visited a penitentiary and was the feet of the people there. Shortly after becoming Pope in 2013 he visited Casal del Marmo youth detention center and celebrated the Mass there.
