I always believe that one has be unique to get noticed in a crowd. This is especially true in competitive profession like real estate sales. You walk into a real estate meeting or brokerage finding out there are more realtors than number of homes that are on the market. How do you stand out in a crowd?
I personally devote my time to serve helping others. I do this 2-3 times a year to help elders, low income or homeless people. I gave and donate generously throughout the year. Help homeless animals finding them foster families is also on my list. Yes, I help people find homes and gave back to those needing help.
This year I joined several other realtors reaching out to San Jose City Team preparing food for the homeless (San Jose City Team). It is located in a disadvantaged part of city across from city waste pick-up yard. The day before I witnessed local police evicting homeless who camped out at the 13th Street ramp to I-101. Earlier a few were washed away during recent storms. I saw those who were evicted picked up what is left of their belongings while watching their tents to be uprooted. I wonder where they were going to sleep that cold night? The City Team is just a few blocks away has room for those getting there early. It houses men only and feed 200 meals at supper time.
Who is helping them collecting food and where are the cooks? I notice some left overs from local supermarket, Trader Joe were being brought in. You are looking at a few volunteers like me and a few colleagues in the photos here. We are the helpers.

I brought bags badly needed meat provisions like spam, and canned meat. I got some baby diapers also. From past experience working at Second Food Harvest, donors just wanted to empty their kitchen cabinets. Volunteers finds opened food boxes with spoons, socks, dirty T-shirts and anything they don't want. The diapers are there for the homes babies whose parents are ousted. Homeless could be renters or previous home owners who lost their home.
What set me apart from others? I do not specialize just in residential, vacant lots or new homes. I find my niche differently. I meet people everyday that there is a trust built between myself and others. Over the years I have sold dry cleaning business, coffee shop, restaurants, gas stations all the way to high-end estates. Large or small it matters little. One still needs mutual trust to build roads to real estate success. One coordinator at City Team was interested in homes and I offered my card to him. He and his wife are stopping to meet me as they are looking for a place to move into.
For me, I have carved out my own niche and that is one based on trusted service. The compensation has little to do with quality of services. They are all treated equally.
