It's a Different World Out There

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Home Jane Realty BRE# 01439865

This isn't a part of the world I ever wanted to visit, but when I saw a cruise that covered Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and China at a reasonable price it was too good to pass up.

It certainly is a different part of the world, and it makes you appreciate what we have in the West. Los Angeles polluted? Maybe, but you can actually see the sun here. New Yorkers rough? They are positively gentile compared with Beijing natives. Real estate prices over the top? Try buying a 300 square foot condo for $400K in Hong Kong.

Enjoy a taste of Asia.

Jane Peters - A cruise to that part of the world is the way to go!  International traveling always makes me appreciate coming back home, and how great we really have it in our country!  Great post!

Beautiful! Maybe before I die...there is sooooo much of the world I have not seen, and then again, I think of what I HAVE seen and how much more it is than others (like my parents maybe) saw.....

And then I think, I've still never been to Alaska, or Maine, or the Grand Canyon.

My god, Jane, how long were you gone? A couple of months? That's a lot of places to hit in one trip. If I ever get married again, I'd like to wear dress and do it in Beijing.

What a trip! I have a lot of places on my list I would go first, but a cruise seems lime a great way to hit that part of the world. Did you not like it? -Kasey

My god-daughter has taught in China for a few years ... and the stories she can tell, Jane Peters.  It really has opened our eyes.  While the experience sounds fascinating, beautiful, and educational ... it doesn't soften the realities of others' lives ...

Glad you had the opportunity and you arrived safely back home ...

Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi China is something else. Not an easy place to be. But I am sure she has lots of stories.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents I was only gone 3 weeks. And if you want to do the wedding in China then Shanghai is the place. Not a fan of Beijing, not to mention that you would want to wear a black wedding dress. White won't stay that way for 2 minutes.

Kasey & John Boles A cruise is definitely the way to go if you want to see that part of the world. Then you can go back to places you like in more detail. I loved Hong Kong and Shanghai. The rest not so much.

Great slideshow of your trip!  Quite the diverse cultures you experienced - and the foods were interesting to say the least.  I notice you didn't have a bad comparison for Japan, and I hear it's a beautiful place to visit.

Hi Jane, what a great slide show and adventure! I think China is not for me, and no I wouldn't buy a 300 sq foot condo for $450K, either.   I would love to see some of those sites in person though- like the Great Wall- one of the "new" 7 wonders of the world.

Mary Douglas China is definitely something else. Shanghai though has a very international flavor to it. I really loved that city.
