Wordless Wednesday- Colorful but Noisy

peacock feather

The area I live in was formerly farmland and home to many peacocks.  When the land was developed, the peacocks stayed, and we gladly welcome them.

However…

It is mating season and oh my gosh...the noise they make. I don’t mind if the peacock wants to strut his stuff in our yard or driveway.  But we were up a lot during the night listening to their calls. Have a listen!

Thankfully, it doesn’t last long, and our gift after the mating season is that the peacocks shed their beautiful feathers wherever they walk.

A Few Tidbits

~Peacocks are not born with their beautiful tail feathers

~You wouldn’t know by looking at them, but they can fly! I’ve seen them go from the ground up to a high roof!

~Peacocks (the males) can fake it.  That’s all I’m going to say.

~Peacocks love to stare at themselves in mirrored windows or shiny bumpers.

Hi Kathy - I have co-existed with peacocks twice in my life and developed a fondness for them. They are loud, but they make great watchbirds.

Kathy I remember the mating sounds in the middle of the night. When I lived in Mexico (years ago) my uncle had peacocks and while they were so pretty it sure was loud!!

James Dray - no way!  They're a bit like my pets now.

Trust me Barbara Todaro the other morning around 2 AM, the thought did occur to me.

Wayne Martin We couldn't get into our driveway today because a peacock was strutting and wouldn't move.  I got out and tried to get him to move over.

Michael Jacobs you reminded me of the first time I drove in our neighborhood.  I had to stop for what looked like a dozen of peafowl taking their sweet time going down the street.  I saw a resident in their yard and he looked at me, smiled and just shrugged his soldiers!

Joe Pryor not like it is during mating season.

Maria Sapio I can remember the first time I saw them fly.  Awkward is how I would describe it!

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386 I noticed that the peahens seemed more aggressive too.

Scott Godzyk I see two white peacocks but they're not albinos. The colors and what Mother Nature has given us are amazing.

They're a minor annoyance Grant Schneider I would miss them.

Debbie Walsh I worry when I see them walking on the street.  They aren't anxious to get out of the way of cars.

Anna Banana Kruchten, CRS I think anyone who has heard their "noise" will never forget it. Really loud.

It sounds like having Peacocks for neighbors . . . . makes for interesting neighbors.

Good luck and success.
