The Challenges of Work-Life Balance – Your Personal Story
We all know striking a balancing between personal and work life is a challenge. It’s true in any industry, but certainly can be a struggle in the real estate business.
The very nature of the real estate business presents hurdles that can make it tough to balance with a desired personal life:
Demands stemming from how we work with buyers and sellers\
Needing to work with a variety of vendors outside our control, such as lenders, home inspectors, title officers, attorneys, escrow officers
The ease of communication via email and texting which means it happens 24/7 with the expectation of immediate responses
Coping with unexpected problems that can arise at any time of the day or week
The highly emotional nature of acquiring, or selling, the most expensive investment one has, which can lead to frantic calls/emails/texts or annoyed buyers or sellers, and sometimes irrational behavior!
Some of us are better at this work and personal life balance than others, don’t you think?
So here’s your challenge, with 3 areas to address:
1. First, tell us about the struggle itself. What specifically is important to you that you are trying to balance? It may be spiritual, financial, physical health, exercise, family time, diet, your emotional well-being, or personal relationships. Is the struggle about managing the time for your business versus relaxing or doing other things? Do you feel stressed and find that hard to manage? Perhaps your struggle is about a lack of enjoyment in some areas of your real estate business? Or maybe there IS not struggle at all!
2. Next, please share the specific issues in your business that interfere with balancing your work and personal life. Is it endless client calls at all hours of the day and night? Rushing around with appointments all the time so you don’t take the time to eat well or exercise properly? Is poor, or lack of, communication from others in the business an issue? Is lack of follow-through by others a problem? Do you not have enough business or too much? Are you not delegating enough, or have no one to delegate to?
3. Lastly, please tell us about particular strategies you use to balance your personal life with work, and hopefully succeed at. Everyone copes with this in different ways, so what works for you? Do you:
Plan family time and put it on your schedule?
Set aside specific times to exercise?
Watch what you eat and when?
Relax by reading, taking yoga, meditating, going for a walk, exercising, cooking?
Plan vacations or weekends away from work?
Take a specific day off or just take off time “here and there?”
Completely relax and step away on vacation or do you go on work-cations?
The challenge begins today and all entries must be completed by the end of the day Pacific Time (AR Time) on May 31st.
Please share a working link to your post in the comments below as a record of your participation.
You must also include at least one ORIGINAL photo (the more the better), or video, that’s relevant to your work-life balance, something you enjoy doing, perhaps.
Balancing your business and personal life is a big deal, and with 3 areas for you to address your post will receive 1500 bonus points, awarded in the early part of June.
Thank for sharing your thoughts so that others might learn from you!! And perhaps you’ll learn something more about yourself and how you could improve your work-life balance.
