Cry Babies Sometimes Get Fed

Last August a wrote a blog about My Why for life and practicing real estate.  It chronicled my jouney from being a jaded entitled experienced agent to being grateful for the opportunity and not worrying about what others were doing.  By taking that approach, my production exploded. So I'm having a struggle currently with a couple of high production agents in my market place who are the quintessential real estate version of Hans Christian Andersen's Emporor's New Clothes.  They strut about garnering buyers, and more specifically listings, all the while doing little or nothing for their clients.  No one has the intestinal fortitude to really say anything about it.  The title people, the lenders and the other agents all whisper about it but no one really wants to suggest these folks aren't wearing any clothes.  Maybe they are worried about Article 5 of the Code of Ethics.  Maybe they are making money with these agents but I think we are being hypocrites and are in professional denial.  I want to shout "They aren't wearing any duds"!!!!!

 

You may know the agent that doesn't return calls, you have to get all the information about a listing on your own, they don't get documents to you if you are under contract, they miss deadlines and want special treatment and generally they are just plain sloppy yet they have a public image of being such go getters and top notch agents.  They simply are not doing their jobs for their clients and specifically sellers.  Unfortunately the public has no idea what is happening, or in most cases, NOT happening.

 

This is a question I pose to agents across the country who have experienced this phenomenom.  I would think that in time the image vs. reality would catch up with these jokers, but I've not seen that happen in 10 years.  I don't want to be a cry baby but geeeeeez, give me a break.  These folks may have gifts but representing buyers and sellers isn't one of them.

I'd like to think their lack of attention to clients would catch up to them, but sometimes, not only doesn't that happen but their past clients refer them. Go figure.

I'm in a small market with 140-ish agents and it's amazing how some of the worst agents are the busiest.
