One favorite show years ago was "Hill Street Blues." Am I dating myself here, or what? So, if you saw the reruns or are as old as us, you may remember the Captain saying, "Be careful out there!" at daily police briefings.
That's the word today in Westchester and 10583 -- BE CAREFUL -- with Parkways that are closed or closing and low lying areas. Slow it down so you don't hydroplane and please note flash flood warnings tonight, all over the NY Tri-state.
At home, or before we close this Friday night, check for flooding in your basement, attic or finished lower level.
That's my message tonight after heavy rain since dawn at 5a and through 5a tommorow. That's up to 3 inches in some parts of Westchester and Putnam Counties -- check Parkways, as most were flooding or closing as I posted this blog!
Be well on roadways home tonight, as others may overdrive the conditions!
The other issue for folks along the NY and CT soundshore and coastal areas is that the heavy rain can impact high tide tonight. This timing could add to flood risks for home and business owners near the Bronx River in Scarsdale and Bronxville, even Tuckahoe, plus Mamaroneck and Rye down to City Isle.
Be on the lookout for rising tides / water! Just be sure not to drive in even inches of water on roadways. Even this urbane area in the NY Tri-state has flash floods along our streams and "rivers." NOAA and local forecaster put the flash flood warnings out midday.
Since the ground is pretty saturated from "April showers" and recent weeks of rain, some trees may be at risk...leading to electric wires being taken down by falling branches.
Good news? It ends Saturday morning and helps our springs flowers bloom. If your sump pump fails, call a plumber, then call us to help and prevent mold.
** Be sure to check basements, laundry rooms and finished lower levels when you can.
* If water ever rises from a failed sump pump, power outage that takes out your sump and dehumidifier.
* Be SURE not to walk into levels of water that are higher than your electrical outlets. My team is on call 24/7 for free estimates to extract water and help clean, if needed!
Happy Friday & Cinco de Mayo ~ We hope you have a safe, drier weekend 10583!
