on Kangaroo Lake Property for Sale
Kangaroo Lake is one of three inland lakes on the northern end of the Door County Peninsula (the other two are Clark Lake and Europe Lake) in northeastern Wisconsin. Kangaroo Lake is a BEAUTIFUL area in the center of the Peninsula, between Baileys Harbor, Jacksonport, Egg Harbor and Fish Creek.
KANGAROO LAKE, BAILEYS HARBOR, WISCONSIN
Of well-known fame is the Kangaroo Lake Causeway, which provides a narrow "bridge" off of Highway E from Baileys Harbor across the Lake, where one can see people fishing year-round (ice fishing is popular on Kangaroo Lake). According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources,
"Kangaroo Lake is a 1156 acre lake located in Door County. It has a maximum depth of 12 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from a public boat landing. Fish include Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye.
The lake's water is moderately clear."
However, Kangaroo Lake is much more than that! Because of its sand bottom and relatively shallow depth, the area around Kangaroo Lake has become a close community that includes cottages from the 1940s as well as million-dollar luxury homes. Planning a day at Kangaroo Lake may take you for a bite to eat at The Coyote Roadhouse (directly next to the causeway, open year-round and a very popular place to eat and enjoy a beverage), or Thyme Cuisine by the nearby Maxwelton Braes golf course. You can shop for organic meat and seasonal produce at nearby Waseda Farms (which provides exceptional grass-fed and organic produce to most of our restaurants in northern Door), or use the boat launch to take a leisurely trip across the Lake. The Kangaroo Lake Association provides a history of Kangaroo Lake, which is the largest inland lake in northern Door and which shows really neat pictures of the causeway being built in the mid-1900s as well as changing photos of the lake and its sunrises and moon rises in its photo gallery.
