This morning I received an e-mail titled "wire transfer instructions" and it appeared to be sent by Docusign. I wasn't expecting wire transfer instructions and suspected this is a "phishy" e-mail.
Checking the spam folder, there were two more identical e-mails from the supposed author, Cameron Smith. No further checking needed. I copied the e-mail for the graphic below and deleted the message to make sure I don't accidentally click the link.
UPDATE: Several days after posting this blog, there was a major ransomware attack on computers throughout the world. The ransomware is called "WannaCry".
Ransomware locks up a computer and displays a message offering to unlock the computer's files for a price. The ransom was $300 payable in bitcoins. The message also stated the price would increase if the offer wasn't accepted within a given time period. Most affected persons/organizations didn't pay the ransom. Those who did pay the ransom have not seen their computers restored back to normal as of this writing.
There are some indications the ransomware was created by programmers in North Korea. The actual attackers might have copied the code from North Korean programmers - that is, experts aren't sure that the ransomware was sent by North Koreans.
Be careful about clicking!
