Elizabethan Desserts - Alive and Well in Encinitas CA
For those who have loved Elizabethan Desserts and were aware the shop closed in the fall of 2015, have no fear.
Elizabethan Desserts is very much alive and well something many dessert lovers in the area still might not know!

Elizabeth Harris is the founder, creator, and head baker at Elizabethan Desserts, founded in 2006, originally at the Sunshine Gardens. The bakery prospered for years and moved to a new location on El Camino Real by the Kohl’s (the current location), making way for her new venture, Betty’s Pie Whole, a western-theme sweet and savory pie (no slices, just pies, small and large) bakery, which, no surprise, has done very well, too.
Managing 2 successful businesses, inventory, staff, and rising costs got to be a bit much and Elizabethan Desserts closed in September 2015 (I remember driving up to the bakery and seeing all the brown paper covering the windows – what a shock), only to open 5 months later with a scaled down version. You can read the whole story in the San Diego Union Tribune, including the appearance on the CNBC reality series “The Profit.”

My favorites are still around – the chocolate chip toffee cookies are to die for, but then, too, are the red velvet cupcakes, s‘mores, Mexican brownies, lemon bars…the list goes on and on. As a very dedicated dessert lover I feel it’s my responsibility to try treats before I recommend them. And having spent plenty of time and energy doing so, I can safely say I have tasted just about everything Elizabethan Desserts offers, and give it my hearty gustatory 2-thumbs (and taste buds) up! I stop by just about every time I am in the area showing properties or running errands.
I haven’t met a dessert there I didn’t love!! And boy am I glad Elizabethan Desserts is still around. And this weekend Elizabeth is offering special Mother’s Day Tea Seatings from 10:30 – 3:30 Sunday May 14th. And she has plans for other special offerings at the shop.
Heading south on El Camino Real Elizabethan Desserts is on the right (west side) just BEFORE the new Walgreens and Encinitas Boulevard (same shopping center as Kohl’s). If you are heading north on EL Camino, go past Encinitas Boulevard and take the first LEFT into the shopping center, then immediately go left. It will be on the right. Sorry, only the big retailers in the shopping center get headlines on the signage but you’ll see the Kohl’s sign.
