We have both loved photography all of our lives. We have stood in awe marveling at Anselm Adams work in museums and in Yosemite. We have enjoyed Weston's work and loved Yousef Karsh's portrait work and even had him autograph a book for us. We have sat at photo sessions with our clients for hours and helped them pick out the photo that communicated their essence.
One of the people whose photography we currently use for one of our clients studied with Irving Penn! His style is artistic and evokes an emotional response! We regularly look through hundreds of photos of luxury homes and chose the ones we like for our clients websites. We look for the same quality that Architectural Digest, Veranda or any other luxury magazine would demand on their pages. We know what a great photo looks like, and the knowledge involved in taking one. We are not professionals in this field, and if we were selling homes, we would enlist the best to take photos.
Mostly, we take photos for our blog posts, and use them when appropriate. For other posts we buy photos if necessary. On Monday, we were at the Music Academy of the West buying tickets for various upcoming events this summer. The gardens are superb. They have an evening picnic musical series set outdoors in the garden. The photo taken above is my before shot. I wanted to convey being there.
Here is the after version. I cropped it, adjusted the sharpness, the highlights and the shadows. This is part of the program that comes with my Mac. I rarely use the re-touch function, or any other complex program. My intent is to have you be there, This is what I think the best photos of homes do, you can see yourself there! I like keeping it simple and as natural as possible. It is what I have seen the great ones do!
This is our entry in Dick Greenberg's Contest: Before & After! Thank you Dick for hosting this challenge.
