Email - Get YourName.com (or .net, etc.)

It amazes me how many professionals (especially Realtors) who don't have their own domain.  I see people using gmail, yahoo, msn, etc for professional email messages.  These are all web based email and are great for personal correspondence but not for a professional.

Did you know for $35 a year and less than $2 a month you can have you own email address at your domain and you can even check your mail on the web.  I use outlook (and recommend it) but there are so many benefits of having your own domain name.  For realtors you can take it with you. If you leave on brokerage and move to another you never miss a beat.  No lost email messages or lost opportunities.

Naturally it may be difficult to get yourname.com if it is a common name but if not pick something that describes what you do or yournameonline.com.  Go to NetworkSolutions.com and register a name. It is easy to check available names.

You might be surprised to find some cleaver names.  Since I sell a lot of Lakefront property I registered www.alllakefront.com just recently.  I just about fell over when it was available.  I currently have 35 domain names which point to various developments and pages on my sites.  Click on my profile to see some of my sites.

As for having your own email address, keep in mid it advertises you every time someone sees your email address.  Isn't it on everything you send out?  If it isn't it should be. Why aadvertise yahoo for them.  They don't pay you do they so why not brand yourself.

I had a client that said he always checked Realtors business cards to see their email address.  If it ended in @telus, @shaw, @gmail, @hotmail or any other provider, he moved on.  It's not that hard to have your email match your domain name, and it looks a lot more professional too.

Jules,

You are so absolutely right!  I believe every REALTOR should have email  yourname@yourbranding.com AND a domain name unique to you  (several, sometimes......! )   (mine is www.IwouldLove2beYourRealtor.com )  I'm amazed at the agents out there who don't even have unified messaging, texting know-how or at the very least, mobile email access!  Blackberries, Treos, etc...they SAVE you MONEY~!  Everything should point to generation of maximum business with minimum time involvement....web, email, cell, all can be tied together now to make you absolutely available, reachable and any other -ables you care to come up with.  Combine this with good personal advertising, and you've got the makings for www.everythingyourbusinesscouldbe.com !!!  (not a real link, just another snazzy point...)

I just got a hotmail account because I was tired of my paid account's problems!

Plus if anything is changed, I lose all my emails AND it won't forward.

I had enough.

Hotmail works for me and is easily accessible!
