Pondering...Again...On Navel Gazing of Sorts
No. I mean reflection. Yeah...reflection...that’s it.
Among the definitions that can be found for reflection(via Merriam Webster) you will see:
a thought, idea, or opinion formed or a remark made as a result of meditation
and
consideration of some subject matter, idea, or purpose
Well, it’s the weekend...and I had a few moments for the purpose of pondering....just some random consideration...an idea or two...
So here I go….finding reflection in the words of others.
Hey...I could be contemplating my navel...right? Did you know contemplating your navel actually has a name? Omphaloskepsis. I love learning new words and especially when I get to use them in the most of random of ways. Like in this post. And moments where I digress...
So here are some quotes on the subject of reflection...well, because...I couldn’t find any about omphaloskepsis:
The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from distress,
and grows brave by reflection.
Thomas Paine
Without reflection, we go blindly on our way,
creating more unintended consequences,
and failing to achieve anything useful.
Margaret J. Wheatley
There are three methods to gaining wisdom.
The first is reflection, which is the highest.
The second is limitation, which is the easiest.
The third is experience, which is the bitterest.
Confucius
So while it may appear I’m practicing the fine art of omphaloskepsis -- it’s really just some ponderings on reflection. Just because.
