Carrie McGowan was born in Lee Vining, California back in 1898. This one, unlike most of mine is going to be short and to the point. I have no information as to her parents schooling and so on.
At the age of 12 she was participating in basket weaving at Yosemite Indian Field Days. She also gave basket weaving demonstration at the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. She was in a group of Mono-Paiute women known for their exceedingly fine, stunning and complex polychrome baskets.
Somewhere along the line she married and took the name of Carrie McGowan Bethel. She died in 1974. In 2006, one of her baskets sold at auction for 216,250.00. I wish I had about of a dozen of those. Keep a smile on your face and a penny in your pocket, until tomorrow be safe and happy.
