Bald Eagles a Soaring Recovery in the Lake States!

When I was young Bald Eagles were very rare to see, and were nearly extinct throughout the United States.  This was due to a pesticide called DDT, once this was banned, the recovery began.

Now we see Eagles everywhere we go in the Northern States, They are a very hardy bird, enduring harsh weather, eating anything including roadkill and handouts from fishermen.

With a lifespan of over 30 years they have recovered quite nicely.bald eagle

Bob,

How wonderful that they have come back.  We saw them on regularly when we lived in Napa, and the raptor center in San Francisco.  They have made a home in the uninhabited Channel Islands off the coast also, where there is a web cam.  A

Bob Bald Eagles are a beautiful powerful bird.  It has been a long time since I have seen any around here, but we do have a lot of hawks.
