In pricey neighborhoods the employees income is impressive so is the housing cost. Many young workers manage to save as much renting a room, live on a boat to save for a place called home.

Unlike the couples illustrated below, I have sold to several single women who can afford a home. They take in a roommate or two who will ask me to get them a housing later. Many of them are still in their twenties. They are determined to achieve their American Dream.

The couples are not the only ones to live on company campus parking lot. Several others did.  Google provides free meals to encourage to be more productive. Many coders work at night and rest day time.  Gym, massage, barber and even dentists are close by to allow employees to take minimum time off.

The couple have worked at Google for five years this April. Husband started as a contractor and now works as a program manager. Two of these five years were spent living in the Google parking lot with his wife.  80% of take home pay is saved for a home they bought in 2013. Home price has almost doubled since.

Today their "mini Winnie" is still alive and kicking, but now it's parked in the driveway of their home.

Lots of ways to save for a downpayment on a home.  Unfortunately, most young people are not willing to sacrifice upfront for the long term benefit.  They still want the new cars, go out to eat all the time, fancy clothes etc.

I can see why many folks are entertaining the idea of living in an RV but I bet it would get old quick!  There are still some smart folks like the ones you have helped who plan and save and buy a place of their own.

I have a lot of admiration for those who live simply, sacrifice comforts as they build for the future.

My son and I both have vans set up for camping out on projects and do this often.  It saves a lot of money, time and gas.

The romance of living in a home with wheels is much more attractive in the planning and dreaming stages than in the actual reality of it.

There is a wowan working for Google also. She owns a small boat near a SF boat harbor.  It is about 200 sf. She pays about $200 parking her boat there. When needing to go to bath there is a public shower. The boat sways a bit so she goes to Starbuck.

Hmmm, I've heard that this company is generous, but living in the parking lot is not my idea of "the good life"...

Sam, I would imagine young buyers would have trouble buying in your area with prices so high.
