Decorating Tips for Your Entryway - Invite people in, don't send them running away

Written by: Michelle Gansler, Realtor with the Real Estate Muses

When we moved into our house I had no idea what to do with the niche above the door in my entry way.  SOOOOO, I spent hours on pinterest and finally came up with some kind of gameplan. If you look at the posted picture, you will notice the use of different elevations, materials, and items that mean something to our family.

Different elevations are important because it keeps the eye traveling to each new height.  I already had a metal milk jug that was purchased in Poland and put large flowers into it to add more dimension.  The small table was purchased at Hobby Lobby along with the "G".  I love that the table is very small, but also sturdy so it doesn't move when/if the door is slammed ( I am the mom of three lovely children, so this is entirely possible).  The candelabra is one of my favorite touches - we already owned this piece and then I found LED candles at Target that are remote operated.  This means that we can turn the candles on and off with the push of a button - genius!!

As you are looking around the design you will see many different materials.  Wood, metal, and cloth.  I wanted my niche to hold interest and for you to want to see each new detail.  The rusted metal of the milk jug, with the ornamental black metal in the candelabra is great contrast.  I also have the large wood sign with painting and then the "G" with its weathered wood grain look.  Flowers add just a touch of feminine with their soft edges and bold colors.

Lastly, there is great thought put into why each piece is used.  Obviously the letter "G" represents our family as it is our last name initial.  The flowers are purple and blue - my wedding colors (I know big aww).  And the world map is there because we have literally traveled the world.  I want my babies to grow up knowing that more is out there and attainable - awaiting for them!

Good luck with your projects!  I would love to see pictures of decorating spaces that you have designed.  Let me know if you have any questions.
