When negativity sets in and your mind begins to ramble or you create conversations with others in your mind, it is easy to fall prey to your thoughts. To train your mind to reject all negative thinking takes years of meditation, training and is never easy to attain. Some of us are products of great negativity over the years. It could be difficult to realize you are not your thoughts. Because thoughts come from within ourselves, we assume they are part of us, which doesn’t have to be the case. It’s okay to observe your thoughts and to be aware of them, but you don’t have to react to them.
The practice of real estate is and always has been a challenge. Any profession that relies totally on the actions of other people can be stressful. It’s easy to allow yourself to become negative in your own mind. If not kept in check, that negativity will soon escape your mind and exit through your mouth. You must remember you are not your thoughts and your actions don’t need to be a result of your thoughts. It’s disheartening to have an expectation in your mind only to have it crushed by another’s actions, but in becoming a real estate agent, we are not promised daily success, nor are we to expect consumers to respond to us the way we want.
If you understand you are not your thoughts, you can go through challenges without anyone knowing your doubts. The key to this profession is progress, not perfection. Perfection only comes with years of progress. Begin practicing now and someday, without realizing it, you will control your thought process and emotions. This is a final step toward true freedom.
A career in real estate is a rewarding career. As you progress in it, you become a respected neighbor, co-worker, peer and leader. As you gain knowledge and as you practice knowing you are not your thoughts, the wisdom that will come out of your mouth will be awe-inspiring. People will look up to you and will value your opinion. The sooner you learn you are not your thoughts, the easier the trip upward becomes. You don’t have to take ownership of negativity, and you are not expected to view life through rose colored glasses. You can be a realist and still become a marksman in your craft. Hone your skills and learn as much as possible about the practice of real estate. Reaffirm your worth and your value each day. Believe in something positive and begin your days by reading something positive.
TEAM Hughes Real Estate School doesn’t always hit the mark because we are human. We do recognize, though, that for our students to be successful, we must be successful, so we know we are not our thoughts. Rather, we are a product of a belief system that requires us to become the best we can and to pass that on to our students. Let us know if we can help you in any way and we’ll sure try.
