The secret to earning a living as a real estate agent is simple. Go to work every day.
There are hundreds of articles and classes on how to spend your time to close more transactions, but the first step is to dedicate eight hours a day to working. If you do that, you will sell houses. Sound too easy?
Many people enter the real estate industry with good intentions. They study and get their salesperson license. They get business cards, and set up a website. Fifty percent of newer agents leave the business every day. They can't "make it", or earn what, for them, is enough money after paying the required expenses to be in the business. If you ask them why, most will say they cannot find enough business.
Many people say they want to be their own boss. Has that been a dream of yours? It is great to not have to answer to a boss, and to schedule your own time. It is up to you however to put in the hours necessary to earn a living. And lead generation should be part of your workday. There is no shortage in the real estate industry of training and education. Hiring a coach will keep you accountable if that is what you need. It will still be up to you to do the work though.
Being a real estate agent means being pro-active. It means letting people know what you do. It means working, even when you do not have the listing of a home to sell or a buyer to work with. Self-disciple and a good work ethic is part of being in business for yourself.
Real estate is a wonderful career! It is fun and the earnings are unlimited. There is flexiblity with your hours. It is rewarding helping people buy and sell homes. The question is, is it the right business for you?
