La Sierra Neighborhood is a large, diverse and complex neighborhood. It Stretches from the City's western edge to the Arlington area. It is the western gateway to the City of Riverside. It is Border Line with Corona and the closest area of Riverside to Orange County. The La Sierra neighborhood was incorporated to Riverside in 1964 after voters approved the annexation. La Sierra neighborhood got its name from the original Mexican land grant known as Rancho La Sierra Sepulveda.
La Sierra neighborhood is like a city-within-a-city. La Sierra University is located in the center of this neighborhood. The university encompasses about 140 acres with over 2,000 students. The extensive grounds feature an arboretum, a major library, museums, and observatory and more.
In addition to the La Sierra University, other significant features are the Galleria at Tyler, Kaiser Hospital, Riverwalk, and Five-Points. The business park is conveniently located near the Riverside (91) Freeway and provides excellent employment opportunities for the area. Convenient access to the heart of the community is provided by Riverwalk Parkway, a major new roadway accessing the community. Other notable development includes a major expansion to the Galleria at Tyler in 2007, which included the addition of sixteen-screen theater and many fine restaurants such as P.F. Chang's China Bistro, Cheesecake Factory, and Elephant Bar, enhancing upon this premier shopping destination.
La Sierra Neighborhood is within the Alvord Unified School District. There are many fine schools that will serve this area including La Sierra High School, La Sierra Academy, Collect elementary school and others.
