What's the name?
On Friday I received a call from a client who took a class with me in 2010. She said she had a hard time finding me, ouch. This could have been another missed opportunity, why? Well I had transitioned out of 1031 Exchanges in May of 2015 and many of my existing clients had not done an exchange since before the crash of real estate in 2007. The market was down and exchanges had fallen off considerably which lead to my transitioning out of the 1031 Intermediary services and into escrow accounting. Okay, you can stop with the "WHAT?" how did you like that, thoughts I know are probably going through your head, they did mine initially. If you know and have worked with me you know that I am always up for a challenge. When I was presented with the "opportunity" of heading up the escrow accounting department, in April of 2015, I asked if I could think about it? Of course, the job was open now and I was asked to please return with an answer by the following Monday (the offer was given on Friday). As I went to lunch (McDonalds as that is all my budget could afford at the time), I received a call from our banker who said that she been tasked with calling all customers today to let them know that the interest rate (which was already pretty dismal) was being dropped ANOTHER 25 basis points. I looked at that call as if it was a sign that I should jump (yes jump) at the opportunity presented to me, a sign from the universe. I still took the weekend to weigh my options. After careful consideration and contemplating the state of the 1031 exchange market I decided my answer should be "I would be happy to accept the position and the challenge that goes with it"!
Over the course of several months I dove into the work head first and worked many evenings until midnight. I took the job on with the fervor I attack all challenges I have had throughout my lifetime. Those who know me well know I have had my fair share. I was not popular, that seems to come with the territory any time you are taking on a job that requires immediate decisive change and action; which may not be popular among those that would like to go with the "status quo". Many of the decisions I had to make were not easy and they weighed heavily on me for many reasons, which I can't detail here but if you ever have undertaken a new division or department you know and understand what is being left unsaid. I worked in the department from May of 2015 through March of 2017 and during that time the department became paperless and all audits ran smoothly. My job was now complete and that left me with the normal day to day operations that each of us loves once a task such as this is accomplished. I was fully satisfied with my work and the many coworkers I had the pleasure of working with but I had to admit to myself I missed the interaction with customers namely the investors I had grown so accustomed to working with. Each investor always has a story and each investor has a goal which I found rewarding to assist them in meeting ~ that is what led me back into the 1031 Exchange Intermediary business!
Back to my original discussion, what's her name? Well my name is easy it's Brigitte but its spelling (most specifically) is hard to remember. Some people would spell it Bridget Eschave, others would spell it Bridgitt, Ecave, Briggit, Echavez, Bridgit so many variations, it is no wonder, that many have had a hard time finding me in google, the spelling is the trick. My correct spelling is Brigitte Echave but often I am referred to as "the 1031 girl in Tucson". Now that I am back in the game, I may just coin myself as "the 1031 girl" so that no one again will have difficulty finding me. Or I have considered going back to my maiden name Brigitte Andreson (yes it is spelled Andreson not Anderson). The pronunciation of my name is BRI-jeet-E-CHAH-vay, and since that sounds so sophisticated (when pronounced this way) I think I will keep it.
Stay tuned for more writings and in the meantime if you have any 1031 Exchange needs either in Tucson (I visit Tucson now at least 8 times a month) or Phoenix and would like to have a one on one in person or over the phone meeting, give me a call at 520-465-8690 or 866-988-1031 or email me at brigitte@the1031.com. Remember to defer taxes you must preplan and you must sign an exchange agreement before your sale property closes. Coming soon will be the launch of the website which you can find at http://the1031.com/.
