Avoiding Home Repair Scams In Fort Worth

Road Sign, Attention, Note, Scam

The National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators and the Consumer Federation of America say dissatisfaction with home improvement work is the number one consumer complaint.

Consumer advocates recommend that you check out a contractor’s licenses, call the references given, and check with the local Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed.

Here are some other contractor tricks to watch out for:

1.. Comes to your home, uninvited, offering to make repairs

2.. The contractor says they are working in the area and has extra materials left over from another job.

3.. Your told you must make repairs immediately to avoid damage and tries to pressure you to sign a contract immediately

4.. Offers to use your home as a “display home”

Google is also a great resource for reviews. I also search Face Book for companies. Your NextDoor App is a wonderful tool for communicating with neighbors about unwanted visitors.

Call the police station if you feel uncomfortable when approached by these unwanted visitors.

The 'Display Home' ploy is a new one on me  Melissa Jackson . I would ask, "Why would I want my home displayed and attracting attention from people I don't even know?"

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386 I was looking at above ground pool options after seeing a great deal on tv.  Their customer service over the phone was not good and the questions were really crazy.  Then I googled the company and looked on FB for reviews.  Decide not to continue with this company.  Yes, the sign is advertisement for their product.

Melissa Jackson - to catch a scam artist and put them away would be something great to see on the news for examples, especially for the elderly. You've done a great job promoting safety in Fort Worth and elsewhere.

Thank you!
