When I spent 6 weeks last winter in Kailua-Kona, I talked with a lot of people on the Big Island. They say the islands talk to you, and the Big Island, in particular, seems to speak to men more than women. Which is really unusual because my husband doesn't much care for the Hawaiian Islands. I'm the person Pele speaks to.
However, nobody I invited to Hawaii wants to go. My assistant said she doesn't want to work while she is there and she has no one to replace her. My point is she has to work anyway, why not there? To each his own, though. There will be other trips.
