I'm fired up...

By
Real Estate Agent with Evers & Co. Real Estate

It takes a lot to get me hot and bothered...those who know me will tell you I'm a happy go-lucky kinda guy...but this was brought to my attention and I figured it'd be better for me to blog about it and let it out then to let it steam up (or maybe not, but oh well...here it goes...)

I'm new to ActiveRain, so I guess this is my coming out party on here, but as a gay man who's been in a committed relationship for over 12 years, been an outstanding member of the community and an all-a-round bleeding heart to those in need, I was repulsed to read this story about a REALTOR is Dallas who discriminated against a gay man saying she would not expose her clients to the "gay" neighborhood because of its harmful lifestyle ... what kinda crazy are we living in?!

http://www.dallasvoice.com/artman/publish/article_8852.php

To this agent, all I have to say is that what is truly harmful is your hate and ignorance...shame on you!  I don't discrimate in any way, shape or form in my business...not only because I represent myself and my company, but the profession as a whole.  We have a bad enough stereotypical reputation as it is and to add haters to the list?!?! I just don't get it...

Okay, that was my rant...sorry if this isn't the correct forum...but some things need to be brought out in to the open that just can't ignored...

it's not a nice thing to do," Johnson said. "It's very disturbing when it happens."

Disturbing is right.  I thought gays were a protected class.

At the least, the agent should have kept her opinion to herself, there was no reason to email the seller, other than malice.

Not nice?  It's not legal! I think there are some heavy fines that should be paid for discriminating and steering her clients.

Denny,

As a straight man I find that type of opinion you ran into disturbing, in this day and age I can not believe it.  Ignorance can be found everywhere, I shake my head and hope for a better future.

Take care!

Denny - Some things need to be said.  I believe that this woman is totally "mis-informed" (I'm being nice here).  And I don't care what NAR says, I think that this is discriminitory!

Denny, I have commented and blogged on discrimination before.  You hit the nail on the head.  She represents herself, her brokerage, her fellow agents, and the Real Estate industry as a whole.  As a member of the industry, I am embarassed and saddened that we allow this ignorance to pervade our ranks and blemish what should be a very noble pursuit.

Denny, do you have any idea how fast this woman would have been run out of this town on a rail?
