I thought I had seen it all when we opened a wall to find pallets used as the wall framing in a house in Gerneville, well we just saw another one with unique construction that has the 2 x 4" studs turned sideways making the wall cavity only about 1.5" thick. I think the paint may be all that is holding this house up... LOL
The inspector had us take it nearly to the foundation and rebuild it from the sub floor up.
American ingenuity has no bounds. New house are being made of straw bales with plaster on the exterior and interior walls, shipping containers are being used as the structure to build homes these days.
How about one I saw on the Internet the other day, it pulls onto the site as a trailer behind a big rig. They put out the outriggers, and the home expands to a two story or more home as it is pushed upward the walls fall into place. Fastest installation I've ever seen.
No headers over the windows or doors, 16" on center studs wasn't considered relevant.
