"The Birds" in Carlsbad

crows in Carlsbad

I suspect many know of and have seen the Hitchcock horror-thriller "The Birds" which took place in Bodega Bay, CA.

Everytime I see the flocks of crows near our house in Carlsbad I think of that movie, which is kinda spooky - I took this photo this evening while grilling.

They often fly overnight in large numbers in the evening, heading off to roost. I've seen a massive collection of them over by the Agua Hedionda Lagoon aat various time, and in recent days there's been several hundred of them in the trees on the other side of our canyon in the trees.

I always think of that movie when I see a bunch of birds too.  Occasionally we get a whole lot of black birds that land in our yard all at once and that movie comes to mind.  Then I send Roy outside to take care of the problem....

I am not a fan of crows. They are a smart bird though,

Backyard bird watching is supposed to be the peaceful observation of finches and cardinals and a variety of pleasant songbirds. An ominous flock of crows is anything but.

Good morning Jeff.  While I've never had crow, I have eaten a lot of it

I like birds of any kind, and crows for me merely mean the trash is getting picked-up.  How was the BBQ?

Being the "cat" person that I am, Jeff... I'm not overly fond of birds. That picture is very "Hitchcockian" in mood.

Jeff, I have the same memory and remember that a flock of these is a murder of crows.

Jeff, I always think of The Birds when I see a big flock of them too, especially crows. I hope they didn't interrupt your grilling.

Birds are so beautiful, but it is indeed a little spooky when so many are flying over together, haha.

Good morning again Jeff. I couldn't even watch the trailer for the movie. I was attacked once and you never get over it. Neat picture.

Hi Kasey & John Boles  - funny, the reactions we have! Great photo!

That would be fun to see Endre Barath, Jr.  We have watched crows flying over many evenings for a long time but they seem to have changed venues for where they roost - right in our neighborhood.

Sharon Lee  - Get that! They really can get noisy. I enjoy watching them chase the red tail hawks we have in our area.

Dave Halpern  - agreed. I enjoy those birds. But the crows are around and hard to ignore.

That was a crazy movie.  Alfred was so ahead of his time.  Just think what he could do with all the techno gadgets today.

Jeff as soon as I saw that picture, the Hitchcock movie "The Birds" is also the first thing that ran through my mind.

Hi Jeff - We have large flocks of blackbirds that do those intricate aerobatics, and I do think of Hitchcock's film when I see them. But I never bought into the basic premise - I mean, c'mon, how tough can a bunch of little birds be? Give me a tennis racket and we'll see who's tough : )

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386  - well it wasn't crow! They DO scavenge a bit, don't they?

Nina Hollander  -  I get that as I am a cat fan too., but ours stay in! I should have done a video - they were really pretty loud

Jeff- I thought of the Hitchcock movie too and that movie scared me!!! I don't care what Dick Greenberg says...a tennis racquet will do no good against bird poop!
