I was riding my bike through Rincon Valley, past the City of Santa Rosa tennis courts near Howarth Park when I noticed 4 small pickle-ball courts. The city had removed a fenced section with 2 tennis courts and replaced them with pickle-ball courts.
Pickle-ball you say? Yes, pickle-ball. I first played pickle-ball in the 1970s at a camp on Orcas Island. It is a combination of Badminton, Ping Pong, and tennis. Some of the odd rules are that you only score a point if you served. The serve is cross court, and the ball must bounce before being returned. It is an odd but fast game. It seems to be increasing in popularity with an older generation. Pickle-ball courts have appeared at our local 55+ community.
For those of us too old to chase tennis balls, pickle-ball may just be what the doctor ordered for our aerobic activity.
Here is a link to the rules of the game: Rules
The city of Santa Rosa posted the following use rules:
- Courts open 6am - 10 pm
- Pickle-ball on court #6 only
- 1-hour use per team or 1 game if people are waiting
- No food, drink, smoking, or other nonpickle-ball sport equipment
I love living in Rincon Valley! I've lived here since 1995 and can't imagine living in a better north bay community. Call me today if you're interested in buying a home in Rincon Valley, or if you'd like to list your Rincon Valley home for sale.
