I must have really annoyed someone at ActiveRain - Do you know why my points were taken away?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros

So yesterday I have almost 40,000 points.  Today I am down to 33,000 and some change.  What happened?  Does anyone know why points are removed on blogs- weeks after posting?  And if so, why some of the blogs over the 10 per week aren't given points if posted in the same week that another is deleted?

It seems "someone" doesn't like jokes.  Ok for others to post, but not me! My jokes have the points removed.  Guess I won't try recipes either.

It seems I must have annoyed someone - nothing I write is ok to stay in the "Newbie" group.  Won't surprise me if this one gets removed too!  This is supposed to be the place to post questions and tutorials and information for new bloggers.  But that is subjective too!

Oh well, guess I'll go back to selling houses and not worrying about Active Rain.  Can't say I wasn't warned that there was a "click" and DON'T annoy them.

If you deleted any of your posts, the points go away.  If they are not made to Public or members only you do not get points. If more than one copy of the same post are in there, then they will delete and take away.  If none of these things apply, then email activerain on bottom of page where it says contact us.  They have been having some issues this past week or so.  I had two of my blogs not counted and a whole day worth of comments not counted until I emailed them.

Looks like from a post yesterday, they are trying to encourage people not post more content -- not jokes, recipies or "nasty remarks" -- but they didn't say anything about taking points away.  You may want to contact the AR gods.

If the jokes you post are not original then yes, no points. Copy & Paste posts don't earn points.  Original posts do.

If you decide to stick around the Rain for the content, for the education, and for the valuable addition it could be to your business then you'll be happy.

April - You'd have to consult the powers that be.  Let's call a spade a spade though, if AR points is your motive than I can understand why you'd be a bit irritated.  That said, AR points hold very little validity when it comes to reaching out to the consumer.  I'd bet my left pinky toe they don't care about points, they google for quality Real Estate Content privy to their lives.  From a guy who lost over 90,000 points in a swoop of an eye, no worries my dear, use this forum for what it is ... not what it isn't.  To date, you can't trade in AR points for Clients or Knowledge ... just my opinion.

Linda,

Thanks for the response.  So if the post is real estate professinals only it doesn't get points?

Jason -

How do you "lose" 90K points in the swoop of an eye?

I am here for more than points.  (That would get boring.)  I want to be higher in points so I can post to Localism and not be lost in a bunch of blogs that mean nothing to a consumer.  Old blogs that should be removed.  I can't imagine a consumer paging through a Localism page to find current data, they'll just move on quickly.

I just don't understand how 2 months ago the posts are ok, then BAM - let's take em away!  I've lost points for comments when the owner of blogs deleted them, not knowing they'd have points removed either.

How bad do you have to be to get spanked with removing 90,000 points?

I don't post in the Newbie section anymore....what I think is or would be valuable to them, someone else does not and you never know who....I do know that non-original...like who sits around and writes jokes....are kicked....AR is a great place...I have learned a lot...and when you think you have something to contribute to Newbies....think again....maybe the "Newbie Monitor" IS a Newbie and is sure they know it all....kinda like generation x-ers !

I went to see what was on your blog. I'm sorry but I didn't read the blog entries. I simply scrolled down to find any blog entries that had points removed. I can tell because they have a small coin with a red "X" on it down in the right corner. Usually, when you click on this little red-x'd coin it will show you the guidelines for the blogs. This time, when I clicked it, I received an error message:

An Unexpected Error Occurred.

We've notified the appropriate people at ActiveRain about this error. Sorry! We'll try to get whatever caused this fixed as soon as possible. Please click here to return to the home page.

This could have something to do with the problem. Or perhaps not. You should contact AR and also let them know about the error - to find out if that's the problem with your blog points.

April, I went back to the blog and I scrolled through them. I see alot of blog entries that are exactly the same but they have different titles. I got penallized for this once because I had posted something to one group and went back and reposted it to another group but forgot what title I had used so I made up another one. I got an email from Bob or Bill or something stating my points would be removed because of the duplication. He questioned me as to why I would do this and made it seem as if I was trying to get more points without having a valid blog entry that was original. I assured him that was not the case. He removed my points anyway and left the blog entries the way they were.

Perhaps that is what is happening?

Hi April,

I am surprised that the AR guys did not remove these blogs from the Newbie Group. They are not appropriate exposure to New People. I hope they get it worked out for you.
