Here is a little article I found in the local paper.
By Justin Brisbane Canmore Leader
If one were to associate university education with intelligence, then Canmore has
just earned a new moniker: the smartest town in Alberta.
Statistics Canada released its data from the 2006 census and revealed that
Canmore has more university graduates per capita than any other part of Alberta.
According to the census data, 30 per cent of Canmore residents have a
university degree, which is well above the provincial average. Only 13 per cent of
Albertans have university degrees
More women in Canmore have university degrees than men.
According to statistics, 1,675 women in town have a degree, compared to 1,370
men.
More residents had university degrees than college diplomas, as only 1,845 had
college diplomas. Another 960 residents had apprenticeship or trades diplomas.
Brooks has the lowest percentage of university graduates, coming in at eight per
cent.
When including college diplomas, Canmore's education level jumps again. Of the
10,015 residents aged 15 and older, 6,355 had some form of post-secondary
certificate, diploma or degree.
By comparison, of the 2,625,145 Albertans over 15 counted in the census,
1,322,130 had some form of post-secondary training. The other half, 1,303,010,
has a high school education or less.
Canmore university graduates were focused in three distinct regions: business
management (1,255), health, parks, recreation and fitness (1,050) and
architecture, engineering and related technologies (1,010). It can be difficult to
find a mathematics or computer science graduate in Canmore however, as there
are only 140 of those in town.
