Sometimes you just got to hit PAUSE

By
Real Estate Agent with Thompson Company, REALTORS® MD594797

Sometimes you just got to hit that Pause button and that is just what I did for the last several weeks. Don't get me wrong, as a REALTOR® you are never really OFF (and I like it that way) but one can choose to slow down a bit or be forced to on occasion.. as I was.

When I got the news that one of my very close family members was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, I hit that PAUSE button, long and hard. I didn't hesitate to pack up my kids, hop on a plane and be where I needed to be for a month. And I am so glad I did.

Technology can often be a curse but for a REALTOR® it is a true blessing. There I was, thousands of miles away, negotiating contracts on two listings and preparing for a new one to hit the market (stay tuned!) all while spending time with the people that make my life whole and my heart full.

I've been back for a few days and busy with my exciting new listing. I promise, pictures will follow very soon - of the listing and my trip. But before I share more info, I wanted to take this opportunity and remind you all to go ahead and hit PAUSE.

And don't wait for bad news to pour in or tragedy to strike.

Andrea I so agree. It is so important to stay in touch what's really important and that is our family and friens - especially when they need us. Sorry to hear about your relative. I had an aunt with Parkinsons and it wasn't easy for her but she did her best to keep her spirits up.  Pausing is a good thing

Good evening Andrea Bedard,

A very good reason to hit the PAUSE button. My sister has Parkinson's and she is doing very well with her boxing and other activities they have her engaged in. I'm amazed at what they are doing now with the disease as my mother also had Parkinson's.Good for you for being there for your close family memeber.

Andrea- you have inspired us all with this post. Yes, we need to learn how to hit pause, and yes, don't wait! Good for you for hitting pause and going to be with your family member. And, Andrea, look at the example you set for your children.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.  That really is a benefit to being in this business.  We work all the time, but we also have the freedom to do exactly what you just did without a boss to ask or the possibility of losing a job or having to use time off.  It is good for us to pause for many reasons - friends and family on the top of the list.  Welcome back. I hope your friend is well. -Kasey

Hi Andrea

This is such good advice but it's often hard to reach out and hit that pause button. Glad you did...thanks for the reminder! Look forward to seeing your listing pics!

Andrea Bedard, you are so right. Everything in balance. My last year has been on and off because of a ailing family member. That's fine because I can always do what you did. Use the technology of the day to keep thing moving while I pay attention to the more important parts.

That's the blessing of our jobs.  For the most part, we can do them anywhere.  And when we have good friends in the business, the stuff that needs to be done in person will get done.

I'm glad you got to spend some much needed time with that family member.  That's the stuff in life that matters.

Hi Andrea

I read this when you first wrote it but decided to come back for another read once I saw it on Kathy's light bulb moments posts. In addition to the note on my laptop "just say no" I think I need to add "hit PAUSE" as a reminder of something I don't do very well.

Yes, we have to keep our eyes on all that is important to us, and sometimes hitting pause is necessary. I hope all is well with your loved one.
