"In the Real Estate business you learn more about people, you learn more about community issues, you learn more about life, you learn more about the impact of government, probable than any other profession that I know of."
Johnny Jackson
I have been in the Real Estate business since 1979 and from experience I confirm that the above quote is spot on true! The following are some of the things I've learned thanks to my Real Estate career.
I have learned the importance of learning how to "Sell the sizzle and not the steak".
I have learned the importance of closing without being pushy.
I have learned that people don't like to buy but they love to own.
I have learned the importance of maintaining a positive attitude knowing that my attitude determines how I go through my day.
I have learned that my physical presentation is an important factor in getting people to listen to what I have to say. I have learned to not only talk the talk but to dress for the walk.
I have learned that preparation for every situation is vital to my success. Knowledge is power and the minute my clients know more than I know about my profession I lose!
I have learned that selling is not talking and that no one came out of the womb a salesperson. I seek knowledge loving to end each day with more knowledge than I began it with.
I have learned that maintaining high expectation for myself is critical to my success.
I have learned that energy is contagious. Listening to the "Rocky Theme Song" before an appointment does more to raise my energy than anything else.
I have learned to stay away from those that wish to steal my joy.
I have learned that like attracts like and I only hang out with folks that I wish to be like.
I have learned that complacency is an issue that all real estate agents face and that is why I constantly am on the lookout for it. How do
I fight complacency? I set high standards for myself. I set yearly goals, monthly goals, weekly goals and even daily goals. I have learned to give myself credit for a how well done but I am never satisfied with what was for what was is over and what will be is what matters.
I have learned that if my business isn't growing and moving forward, it's stagnant and will soon be left behind. Nothing is ever status quo, we are either moving up or moving down.
I have learned that we can choose to strive for excellence or we can choose to strive for mediocrity. I have learned that the choice is ours and I have learned that I love excellence!!!
I have learned that when you put the people first the money comes.
I could write many more things that I have learned thanks to my career in Real Estate.... but I hope this post will be a help to those of you that took the time to read it.... and I wish you a very Happy Day.
