Have you ever realized for years you have missed out on something right under your nose?

I have driven past this space so many times, and this week decided to stop and see what was here. The George Lorimer Preserve is 87.8 acres and is a combination of meadows, woods, Valley Creek, birds, ponds, wildflowers and a small trail system all open to the public for free to walk and enjoy.

George Lorimer Preserve

It doesn't take long to walk, but if you have some dogs, as long as you keep them on leash it is a wonderful place to take them for a walk. Lots of it is in the shade and I felt like I was back in England walking public footpaths across the countryside again.

Trail in George Lorimer Preserve

The walking is fairly easy and today I only came across one other person using the trails with a couple of dogs.

Woods in George Lorimer Preserve

Set on a semi rural road. N Valley Road in Tredyffrin Township the preserve has a small car park, trails are obvious, and this is an easy walk for anyone.

The preserve is managed by the Open Land Conservancy of Chester County, which is a 501 (C) (3) land trust supported by over 500 members and volunteers. You can learn more or sign up as a volunteer at www.openlandconservancy.org, or call 610-647-5380.

Here are some other Chester County Preserves and Conservation Easements the land conservancy manages.

Remember buying or selling a home is not necessarily about using a big name firm, but using a local agent who understands what clients want. Nick & Trudy Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - Your post about The George Lorimer Preserve reminds me of the reason why I was attracted to my previous home in Northern, IL. It backed up to a Forest Preserve that was rarely visited by anyone other than those who believe in harmony with nature. Just as you described, each time I walked through the trails it was as if I was discovering new plants, birds, and creatures in nature. Truly, I felt one in nature!

While some people may get excited to live in close proximity to major highways, hospitals and shopping malls, there is a large segment of the population that prefers the peace and quite nature of a Forest Preserve. The George Lorimer Preserves is a treasure for the community and affords educational opportunities to families who enjoy the outdoors without the hassle of traveling to other countries.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel and they are so easy to miss as this is just tucked back on a road we go down all the time, but without any signage till you enter the parking lot.

Hannah Williams that is wonderful, I heard there is a path from Maine to Florida being created for bikers and much of it is already in place, just sections needed to connect which may take a few more years.

Shahar Hillel it is a lovely place, very quiet

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate it just sits there quietly and so few know about it it is a shame.

Patricia Feager it is a lovely place I took one of my grand dogs to walk there this weekend. Lots of wonderful smells to explore....
