CONSERVE YOUR ENERGY---CONSERVE YOUR MONEY
Will this take a long time? Is this expensive? Is this an unrealistic goal? The answer is NO
Follow these 15 simple steps and start saving money while protecting the planet! (What could be better?) Here we go!
- Lower the thermostat when you aren’t home. Lowering the temperature by
3-5 degrees will save you money on your monthly bill, AND help the environment.
- Start composting. A compost pile is comprised of organic waste that is kept in a container and it decomposes over time. Composting provides natural fertilizer and reduces your output of trash each day.
- Use a Low-Flow Showerhead. These special showerheads let out 2.5 gallons per minute. Most other showerheads use at least 5 gallons per minute. Your wallet will thank you!
- Stop taking baths. Taking a bath uses roughly 75 gallons of water. However, a shower typically uses roughly 17.2 gallons on average.
- Unplug chargers you are not using. Chargers that are plugged in but not in use are called 'energy vampires'. The average charger uses about 0.26 watts of energy when not in use and 2.24 watts when lugged into a device. Collectively, energy vampires can be responsible for 10% of your energy bill! Only plug in what you are actually using!
- Put in a storm door. Storm doors provide extra protection from the weather conditions. Storm doors are usually made from a special coating that can help reduce energy loss by up to 50%. The average storm door between 25 and 50 years and can cost as little as $75.
- Use your space heater cautiously. Most space heaters use at least 1,500 watts of energy to run and can be a huge expense for home owners/renters. Try wearing extra clothing or piling on blankets
