Houttuynia cordata, Kentlands Photowalk
Houttuynia cordata plants are common in Kentlands, our home community within the City of Gaithersburg in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. The flowers are small and you need to look closely to see the details. This is also know as Chameleon plant. Click on the links to learn more.
Subhash Sharma "This exquisite looking Houttuynia cordata has been called a "poison blocking plant"; in many languages including the Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Korean languages. In Manipur state of India it is known as toningkok. In English, it is known as lizard tail, chameleon plant, heartleaf, fishwort, and bishop's weed. With so many admirers in the world the plant not only produces beautiful flowers but has several culinary and medicinal uses. It has been tried both externally and internally for several ailments including arthritis and allergy. It also has a lovely aroma due to some chemical like β-myrcene and 2-undecanone which it contains. Heartleaf Dokudami is also used as Japanese Detox Tea."
Mr. Sharma is a Facebook friend from India. He now lives in Dublin, Ireland and frequently comments on my photographs as I post them on Facebook. If you enjoy my photographs, please follow me on Facebook.
