Here is the latest update on the California Statewide MLS!

CALIFORNIA MLS UPDATE: The new California MLS (CALMLS) had its first board of directors' meeting May 1, 2008 and made significant progress.   Mike Silvas, a well respected broker owner from the Napa area, was elected as the Chairman of the Board.  The directors approved its initial bylaws based on the policy recommendations from the C.A.R. Board of Directors at the January meetings.  The CALMLS bylaws will be presented to the C.A.R. board of directors for approval in June.  The board also approved draft MLS rules that will be posted for comment and discussed at the C.A.R. meetings.  These rules use the C.A.R. Model MLS Rules as their base but reconcile the local variances.  It also includes a comprehensive citation policy which is based on many of the successful models in place in some areas of the state.  Finally, the directors approved a comprehensive RFP to get a vendor for the statewide MLS.  The CALML S board of directors will review these proposals in June and select a final vendor, or combination of vendors.

For more history or the most up to date information, including the bylaws and rules referred to in this update please see http://mlsinput.car.org or feel free to email comments to mlsinput@car.org.

Jean, I am excited to know more about this new MLS. It's been difficult to keep up with all of the changes.  I belong to Metrolist and REIL and I am pleased with their statistic capabilities...I also use MLS Alliance and am not happy at all with the information provided.  I miss the old MLS Exchange.

Do you have any idea what the new system will be?  I am particularly interested in the report capabilities and the ability to get statistical insight.

Thanks for the information!

Though not from California I am interested in watching how this statewide MLS will evolve. I certainly wish the state members good luck!

I personally don't think that such an MLS would suggest the end to the referral agent as questioned above. I would hope that what it would really mean is the ability to find an agent to refer to just got much easier and more dependable. We refer because we understand that real estate is a local business, not because we don't have a license to sell in the needed area. If you will be able to do searches throughout the entire state then you should be able to find agents who actually have listings like the one your customer needs. Perhaps you could search for recent sold listings of the correct property type and see if one company or agent dominates those sales.

With the ability to better match your customer with an agent you would hope to have more happy endings and less customer or agent dropouts.

Wow, I looked at the service and the new technology for this is impressive. I for one, belonging to both a very small regional (Amador County) and rather large (MetroList) MLS's look forward to integration and the great new trick this wil be able to do...

As for referrals, I would have a heck of a time fulfilling my duties to a client out of my area, so I think that is moot. Then again, referral fee based business has always left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth anyway...
