Buying a new home is blank canvas inside and out.

What would you do?

Today let's talk about the exterior of a home and what you hope to find and what you are willing to take on.

When you buy a home you need to consider how much you can afford. Not just what you are pre-approved for. There is so much more to consider. One needs to consider the the actual costs involved with the home you ultimately buy.

Let me give you an example. We purchased a brand new build and then set aside money and budgeted so we could afford to add to the value to the home and increase the street appeal.

Are you the kind of person who has vision and is willing to take on a blank slate?

The first two things we did in year one was  install afence to frame the rear yard and added an in-ground sprinkler system.

Potomac Shores resale or a new build

Then in the spring of year two we forged ahead and added steps to the rear yard and installed tree's and bushes. We added Crepe Myrtle, Hydrangeas, Roses, Azalea's, Butter-fly Bushes, and evergreens. We used hedges that will grow and soften the hard lines of the fence and stairs. We designed a plan and are now working our plan. In the fall we will add perennials to add additional seasonal color to add interest.

,when buying a new home consider all the costs

Now while I wait patiently for the landscape to take hold and flourish. I water, and add seasonal color with my flower pots!

Window boxes improve street appeal

So when it is time to buy a home in the Woodbirdge Virginia  and surrounding area, it is important to really think about more than the monthly mortgage payment.

The bigger question is, can I  afford the home I like, the one I see myself living in. Can I afford the landscape? The upkeep? The utilities? The Water Bill? Do I have the time to manage the property.

Keep in mind a  good local REALTOR, can help you figure all of that out. Buying a home is more than just searching for a pretty home online and making an offer.

"Buying a home is about  your desired lifestyle, commute and budget."
