After reading the instructions for this challenge, I clearly saw how many of these parts are related. The business practices that we employ and put in place are interwoven in our routine and the cycles of life and our profession.
The best business practice that I put into play in my first year was taking the advise of my "mentor" and attending my first Coaching seminar put on by Tom Ferry. I was the most skeptical of followers and likended the devotees to cult worshipers. They chanted affirmations and clapped and gnashed their teeth. I thought they were all crazy. I even wrote a blog on ActiveRain about Tom Ferry being a possible cult leader. (I sent it to him, and luckily he has a good sense of humor.) My mentor/broker insisted that we all attend and I seriously tried to get out of it. I asked how long I would have to stay. But I learned so much the first day that I was hungry to go back for more. I attended many 1-day seminars and then began going to the annual event each year in Anaheim. As a new agent, I was like a sponge soaking up the wisdom and networking with more experienced agents. Although I don't make it every time anymore, I truly believe that the enthusiasm and knowledge I aquired at those seminars helped me leap ahead and love my job.
Of course, the second part of this post is directly related to the first. My first broker, Lori Bowers was the catalyst for me to become a follower, attendee of the Tom Ferry Coaching program. Every seminar I would come home filled with energy to try out something I had learned- whether it was focusing on my contact list, or handling objections better, or narrowing my market. I was also lucky enought to work with the Coach Danny Morel He is the up and coming motivator in Southern California, and if you have the opportunity to learn from him- don't miss it.
Finally, the business practice that I have recently adopted is Instagram. I have long been a huge fan of Facebook, and had shied away from Instagram, but now I'm embracing it. I have several Instagram
profiles including a long-time Facebook page I created many years ago called 365 things to do in the Palm Springs area on Facebook This local, event, lifestyle, page has been growing strong and I now have over 13,480 fan- it typically grows by 40 new fans a week during the summer and over 100 a week during our season. I sprinkle some real estate posts in but it is mostly about promoting and supporting local businesses and events. Now, with a 365 instagram page linked to it- I reach even more people in a different demographic.
