(Almost) Speechless Sundays-Halleck Vineyards

Halleck Vineyard, Sebastopol, Sonoma County, California

This area, 1-1/2 hours north of San Francisco and only 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean, is ideal for growing pinot noir grapes, and Halleck Vineyard has mastered the art of producing award-winning pinots.

No open houses for me this afternoon, so I was able to be part of a group of 8 friends at a private wine tasting presided over by one of the owners and vintners, Jennifer Halleck. The prelude to pours of 5 different pinots was a tasting of their Sauvignon Blanc and a Dry Gewurztraminer, both gems.

If you like small, intimate gatherings located off the beaten path, Halleck Vineyard might just be perfect for you. Check out the Hallek Vineyard website for details.

Good morning, Gita Bantwal - we had a delightful time with friends in a gorgeous setting.

Hello Nina Hollander - red wines used to give me headaches; white wines not. Now, I can enjoy a glass of either without headaches. Interesting how our bodies change over the years.

Hi Barbara Todaro - you pegged it! Wine is optional; good company in a beautiful setting is not.

Good morning, Joan Cox - I love my urban living, being in the heart of the city, but there's a need in me to enjoy the countryside, too, and our visit to Halleck Vineyards with good friends was a real pleasure.

Hi Brian England - many wineries have lovely settings, but this small, family owned and run one is one of the best. It was gorgeous.

Lottie,  Yes, that would work for me. Small intimate group of friends in a private tasting in that setting.  So glad to hear that you were not hosting an open and enjoying the afternoon with friends ... and wine.

Hi Kathleen Daniels - I haven't had a taste wine for 3 months; yesterday the tastings actually tasted good!! (And I didn't have a nap yesterday, either!!)

Napa Valley is the premium "granddaddy" of the wine area. Some of the newer, smaller areas are also great, like Halleck Vineyard in the Russian River area. Enjoy the Finger Lake wineries, Grant Schneider

Hello Sheila Anderson - maybe someday your world travels will include a stop over in the San Francisco area. You, too, could enjoy Halleck Vineyards!

Hello Joe Pryor - Oregon has a reputation for superb Pinots, right? You might enjoy comparing some of those with some of the Russian River Valley Pinots of western Sonoma County.

Sebastopol is not that far from me in Sacramento, Lottie. I've been to lunch in that town, but have not really explored the wineries there. In fact, I've just ordered a case of Sauvingon Blanc from Sterling, which is really terrific at $16 a bottle. But I would visit Halleck winery. On the other hand, I probably need one more wine club like a hole in the head, ha, ha.

Halleck Vineyard is the smallest winery I've  visitied which is part of its charm. The wine club has a wait list, so you're safe, Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents

Hi Lottie- that looks like an ideal way to spend some time with friends. When we were living in Northern VA, Larry and I did tour some vineyards. While not like California, it was still fun.
