THere are 3 challenges or contests this month at ActiveRain.
Thanks, my friend Jim Cheney for sponsoring this challenge.
This is a different kind of challenge.
August Challenge: Being Human
We often present ourselves within specific parameters that suit our business persona. We hand pick pictures of ourselves and describe our accomplishments in perhaps a tainted light that paints a picture of ourselves in a very calculated way. In this month's contest, I'd like to challenge you to step away from the "Top Producer" mindset and get grounded with what it means to just be human.
Tell your ActiveRain constituents and your sphere of influence something about you that is personal. Perhaps it's something only the people closest to you might be aware of. Not unique, but special.
It's these things that make up who we REALLY are. Things like being a Boy or Girl Scout leader does not make me who I am, but it shows others what is important to me, youth leadership. Without bragging or boasting, it presents a real picture of who I am as an individual. Sure there are lots of youth leaders, but for those who do not already know, it is a new piece of information that helps you understand me....
Here is something only a few people know about me... My wife let my youngest son get a beagle from a breeder in Fresno. We named him Bagel, and he was a cute dog. After a year, it was clear Bagel needed a dog friend. I got Jerry from a beagle rescue group in Elk Grove, CA. Jerry and Bagel became best friends. "Two Peas in a Pod" you might say. I was asked by a local rescue facility if I'd consider providing foster care for beagles pending adoption. I said yes! This is Sally, she is my latest foster beagle.
Sally is foster beagle #6 for me. The foster beagles stay at our home from as short as a few days, to as long as 4 months. Beagles are the sweetest, most loving, and affectionate dogs. I love feeling like I've been a part of finding them a loving home. My door is always open to a beagle in need.
For this challenge, write a post about 1 thing that you do that is personal to you. It does not have to unique, but it needs to be personal and should not be related to our industry. It would help if it was a passion, something you are invested in vs. something you volunteered for once or need to do for some reason. Here are some examples:
Foster rescue animals
Regular volunteer at a food bank or animal shelter
Adopt-a-highway litter pick up
Taking culinary classes at the local college
Member of a charity organization
Here's what does not count:
Trying to be Top Producer of your company
Trying to get your broker's license
Trying to close 1 transaction a week
Get the idea?
1500 points will be awarded for the following:
Write 1 post about 1 thing you do that makes up the fabric of the person you are.
1 original picture, or slide show.
