Recently I began evaluating my choices, my life, my family and what I choose to do with my time. The outcome of this "self evaluation" made me realize that often we get so caught up in that next deal that we tend to forget about or at the least neglect that which should be most important to us. As a husband and a father of five my wife recently asked me to go my 11 year olds award ceremony at school, you know the one were your child gets about 3 seconds of recognition and then we all leave. As I began to explain why I did not have the time to be there she promptly said "I will be out of town and you need to make the time." I ended up getting there about three minutes before she went up to get her reward and when she looked up and scanned the crowed her eyes instantly focussed on daddy and presented a smile from ear to ear. At that moment I realized that reason we do what we do is to have the time for the things that truly matter in life. For those of you who have families or friends that are important to you remember that it only takes a few seconds to enjoy what really matters in life. you see this particular daughter is one of my two adopted children and that smile was not only her sign of joy it spoke the very acceptance and love she now has in her life from her mom and dad. That short 7-10 minutes it from me established much greater security in her.
Dont allow the business of our "profession" to steal the importance and value of what you have to give and display to those that matter most to you.
