A Visit to Harvard Yard in Cambridge MA

Harvard Yard in Cambridge CA

Back in 1999 we moved from a sprawling house in the Boston 'burbs to a 3-story Victorian remodeled home (formerly a 2-family converted to a single family) on Line Street in "the city" in Somerville - literally homes on the other side were in venerable and more revered, Cambridge.

For a couple of years while working in downtown Boston I used to walk to the T (the subway for non-Bostonians) in Harvard Square, less than a mile away, walking through iconic Harvard Yard twice per day, and past Julia Child's former house among other beautiful Cambridge homes. But "the Yard" was something special.

Flashback to 2014 and our trip to Boston to visit a number of close friends following our move in 2005. We were meeting a good friend in Harvard Square for lunch so it was the perfect opportunity to park nearby "the Yard" and stroll through briefly. We have such fond memories of Boston and particularly of Cambridge, and living close to 2 top universities in a community that is rather unique - I liken it to Berkeley CA.

Hi Jeff - Nice photos. The only time I was in Boston, I walked through the Yard and watch the sculls on the Charles River - very cool place.

Jeff the Boston area has so much to see.  To bad Boston drivers are nuts!!!  The "T" is the prefered way to travel there.

Hi Dick Greenberg  - watching the rowers was always a fun past-time and there are some great vantage points.

Hi George Souto  - well, having lived in Boston I can say I heartily agree. It's definitely a place to test your driving skills, patience, and to sorta forget all the important things you learned as a good driver...at least it seems that way for many drivers. LOL. I loved the T.

Hi Jeff,  I had no idea what the T was.  In NY, it is just known as the subway.  I've never been to the Yard.  Your photos are great.

Hi James Dray  - indeed it did. I really liked living in Boston but grew too weary of the long winters. But I love visiting!

Indeed Joe Pryor  - it will be great fun to visit Boston then, even though the weather might not be so nice!

It's a beautiful campus Jim Cheney  You would enjoy a visit to Boston some day!

Hi Elyse Berman, PA, CRS  - it's funny how the subway has different names depending on the city, isn't it? It's BART in San Francisco, the Tube in London, the Metro in Paris and Washington DC. The list goes on.

It WAS fun to visit some old haunts in Boston Kathy Streib especially Harvard Square.
