An Experience to Remember - But Not Chronicled!

By
Real Estate Agent

Those who know me, also know I always carry a camera with me.  I preach there will be experiences in life you will want to record to pixels for future revisitation of special times.

This has been a bitter-sweet day, a testament to not following my own advice.

At mid-day, I noticed a pickup truck on the road in front of me.  In the back was a massive creature that I thought at first was the largest most gorgeous dog I had ever seen.  Yet, on closer examination, it seemed more wolf than dog.  It wasn't long before the truck turned into a local shopping center, and parked in front of a restaurant.  I quickly followed.  I asked the owner, what kind of animal it was. They responded that it was a Hybrid - Half Wolf and half Husky.

Thor was one of the most amazing creatures I have encountered. Extremely affectionate, and majestic looking at the same time.  I petted and loved on him for quite some time.  When I started to walk away, he put his head back and howled at the sky as if it were a star and moon populated night.  I quickly returned for another bout of petting, hoping he would be more content.

Yep folks, you guessed it.  This was one of those rarest of experiences - My time with Thor, and the sad realization that I had absolutely no camera with me, not even my cellphone!

Lesson learned. . .Always travel with a lens!

Using the free photo editing tool, Photofunia, I created the drawing above. It is from a Wolf-Dog picture I found on the net, which looked most like Thor. But, Thor was larger!

Myrl Jeffcoat - I feel your sorrow for not having a camera when you needed it. Maybe it was best for Thor not to be photographed but to be petted and loved by you when he needed it most. The drawing of Thor is just beautiful! I hope you get to cross paths again with Thor and his owner. Your description of him is just beautiful too. I wonder if there are any available to adopt? I have never seen or heard of any available for adoption in my area. It must be rare and wonderful to get that close to something that great. It's as if you had a Native American spiritual connection. Memories last forever too.

Ah, geez, Myrl, how can you leave home without your cellphone? Even if you don't sell real estate all of the time, you never know when a prospective client might call. I don't even venture out into the yard to so much as pick a tomato without my cellphone. But then you know how radically obsessed I am. Why, I sold a home in Natomas yesterday (that had been a toughie) just before the total eclipse happened, and I was wishing the agent would hurry up and end the call, LOL.

Myrl Jeffcoat - Thor was in my dreams last night. I was inside a cabin painted white and Thor was there sleeping at the foot of my bed on hardwood floors. I got up to let him outside.... but he wasn't there!!!

I had no idea that they cross-bred these two animals in real life, Myrl Jeffcoat ... rather thought it had a movie/book existence.  How amazing that you got to see and interact with this amazing animal ... and hear it in action too!

Myrl, you are so lucky to have met Thor ( I'm sorry you didn't have your camera, too) there is a rescue nearby that has 30 Wolf-hybrids, not for adoption but for sanctuary.  They are in the process of getting the necessary permits to move their operation to Red Feather! The animals are so beautiful, but unlike Thor - I guess some do not make the best pets :-(

But at least you will have a great memory, with or without the picture to remind you.  I have seen a few wolf hybrids and they are beautiful creatures.

Hi Myrl - I came here via the reblog by Roy Kelley.  I really appreciate knowing about the photo editing tip.  While I usually have my simple point-shoot camera with me, I find my cell phone quite convenient when an opportunity presents itself.   I really like the story behind the photo too.

I'm sorry to hear you couldn't take a photo, but it sounds as though the experience more than made up for it. As the previous owner of a siberian husky, I could just imagine the affection and the howl. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Myrl

What a fun experience that must have been, but at the same time a major disappointment. I almost always have a camera with me but every now and then...we just have to rely on our photograaphic memories then, don't we?!
