North Carolina will become the nation's top choice for retirement relocation in coming years, this according to the National Active Retirement Association (NARA). The NARA, a clearinghouse and networking organization for those interested in learning more about the trends and opportunities in the baby boomer and retirement industries, says Florida is gradually losing its grip on those considering retirement. North Carolina, especially eastern North Carolina, has held a strong position as a retirement destination for almost two decades, but a detailed new survey shows that North Carolina is the number one future retirement choice among the current 41 to 49 age group. Among all survey participants ranging from age 41 through 69, North Carolina was number three behind Florida and Arizona.
The survey, led by NARA President Dan Owens and Del Webb, a national leader in developing communities for the over-55 population, shows North Carolina projected to become the number one retirement state over the next 10 years or so.
Eastern North Carolina has long been a retirement destination, not only attracting North Carolina military retirees, but also those seeking a warmer climate, waterfront living, arts and cultural communities and a variety of recreational attractions.
