Stretching over 180 acres making it Grand Rapids largest city park, Riverside Park, also known as Comstock Riverside Park will make you forget you are in the city limits and just minutes north of downtown. It is maintained by the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks:
The Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is an independent, citizen led, nonprofit enterprise founded in 2008, working closely with but separate from the City, with the mission to identify specific park projects, mobilize people, and generate resources to protect, enhance, and expand the City’s parks and public spaces. In a nutshell, we make park improvement projects happen by bringing together neighbors, park users, the City, funders, volunteers and contractors.
We believe that vibrant parks and public spaces are essential to support the community’s economic competitiveness, environmental health and cultural well-being. We understand that a healthy park system is a long-term commitment.
Creeping north along the Grand River, you can spend hours soaking up the sun on the walking paths, playing disc golf, fishing, hosting a party at one of the picnic areas set up with grills, or at one of the two soccer fields. Riverside is also a common place for community events. It connects two of our favorite bike trails: The Fred Meijer White Pine Trail to the north and the Kent trails to the south taking you through Byron Center.
It's stunning in any season,
but we especially love it in the summer.
It may feel autumnal today, but we've got quite a bit of summer left and we recommend you take advantage of this gorgeous park often and with friends and family, although alone is just as lovely.
