Being Human - Mr Banana, Well I had to think a bit about what I would write about. Mmmm, something with passion. Passions seem to be running a bit high in the US today, what with all the brewhaha in Washington but I don't want to go there. I mean would love to go to Washington DC just don't want to talk about all the brewhaha!!
So, let me focus on what gives me joy and with some passion. Anna and I have discovered an unexpected delight in a place we've lived by for many years and just never realized how cool it is. I'm talking about the North Mountain Visitor's Center. We recently started volunteering there and it has been more fun and interesting than we ever knew. We've meant lots of very nice people and have learned a great deal about the mountain preserves in Phoenix.
Last weekend we volunteered on Saturday which just happened to be the day when there was a presentation on rattle snakes. Learned a whole lot about their habits and what to do if you encounter one as well as having several live snakes to see and hear about including a 4 foot long diamond back. The snake guy (his name is Mark but everyone calls him the snake guy) has had a passion for understanding rattlesnakes for a long time especially since he is an ER doctor and has seen the results of many rattlesnake bites.
And that was not the only thing going on at the center, it was open mic morning and there was a delightful trio there playing all kinds of great tunes using the violin, banjo, big bass violin and numerous guitars.
Between the two events there were plenty of people coming in to hear one or both and it was delightful to be able to greet them and welcome them to the center.
So its been a delightful and unexpected joy to volunteer at a really cool place. Anna and I look forward to every opportunity we can to get there.
