For as long as I remember, I’ve been a person who wakes up early in the morning and is ready to get moving towards the things I really want. That being said, my mornings commonly start slowly with a routine - I’m the guy who doesn’t want to be talked to until the bottom of the first cup of coffee. And over the years, I’ve found it easy to wake up early enough to put my head together and parallel with that time, find inspiration and motivation.
Mornings are great for many people to get many things cared for because it’s quiet, no one else is awake (normally). For me, I can review yesterday, plan for today, and find an educated guess what tomorrow will look like.
There are books out on morning routines, rituals, and more. Most have something valuable to say. In short, using my morning to meditate, go over my affirmations and gratitudes with hot coffee, and read something that guides my thinking in a healthy way are the best parts of waking up. Well, the coffee is often number one until I get through my routine. By this time, the routine has kicked in and I’m ready to leave for my office with a smile.
Exercise is often a morning routine item. I love to exercise, and depending on the day, it is biking, yoga, or strength training. Many successful brokers I know are at the gym at 5:30 or 7:00. This isn’t part of my morning routine. It is often an afternoon routine because I’ve sat down too long running my phone and computer. For many years, I did Crossfit at 5:30 in the morning, before coffee. It was very helpful and the post-workout coffee very rewarding.
Morning routines are what structure our days, mentally and emotionally. How we put that together, it is really up to what works best for us. Success isn’t accidental. In my opinion, success comes from having a foundation that builds each day to be the best it can. Having a morning that affirms that we are healthy, connected, and wired for being forward moving trusted advisors, success has a great place to build from.
Success isn’t accidental. And luck favors the prepared. The beginning of any day is the time to take steps forward and be as prepared as we can.
